Our Mission and Vision

The Binalong Bowning Community Action Group stands for honesty, trust, and transparency. We aim to protect our community's social cohesion through advocacy for renewables and climate change. Our goal is to halt the proposed wind towers between Binalong and Bowning.

They Say: "90 turbines 260m high will be co-located on agricultural land and is compatible with farming"

We Say: Introducing up to 90 turbines, each potentially over 200 metres tall, will dramatically alter our rural landscape. The visual intrusion from these towering structures will disrupt the scenic vistas that define our region. While farming might technically continue, the presence of such infrastructure could deter tourism and diminish the area's natural appeal.

They Say: "The project will create jobs and support local businesses."

Both short-term construction jobs and long-term maintenance roles are taken up by out of town contractors. There are minimal opportunities for local workers. The promise of economic stimulation is outweighed by the devaluation of our property values. The development will deter young families from moving to the area as well as tourists. This will have a direct impact on our local businesses and tourism which rely on the area's unspoiled environment. It will drive people away from investing in the area and this could force our two primary schools to close.

They Say: "Community benefits include support for local groups and annual funding."

We Say: Monetary incentives cannot compensate for the permanent alteration of our environment and lifestyle. Such offers are attempts to silence opposition rather than be genuine community investment.

Take Action Today.
Help us Keep The Horizon Clear.

The proposed Bendenine Wind Farm threatens to bring serious harm to the Binalong and Bowning region. With up to 93 of Australia’s largest wind turbines planned for installation across productive agricultural land, this industrial development will permanently alter our landscape and our way of life.

We are not anti-renewable energy. We support a responsible and fair transition to clean energy. But this project is not fair. It is not responsible. And it must be stopped.

We call for an end to the Bendenine Wind Farm proposal. Our land, our homes, and our future deserve better.

It is important that you HAVE YOUR SAY RIGHT NOW.

Tell Wind Prospect what you think about their plans to profiteer off our nature by turning our stunning rural landscapes into an industrial site and the negative impacts it will have on our heritage villages, our homes and schools, our beautiful bird life and precious biodiversity.

They Say: "Environmental assessments will minimise impacts"

It is well known that the construction and operation of wind factories involve large scale clearance of native habitat and biodiversity loss with no consequence to the developer. The cumulative environmental impact in ecologically sensitive areas such as ours cannot be understated, for example, sustained slaughter of our Little Eagles, Wedge Tailed Eagles, Superb Parrots and Boobook Owls.

They Say: "“No wildlife, animals or birdlife are affected by the wind farm.”

This is false. There is clear evidence from nearby wind farms of the ongoing slaughter of our birds, bats and owls. The nearby Bango Wind Farm has already recorded significant deaths of threatened species such as the Little Eagle and Superb Parrot from turbine strikes. Turbines also cause habitat destruction, with blasting, clearing and road construction displacing native wildlife and damaging fragile ecosystems.

They Say: "We are committed to community engagement."

We Say: True community engagement involves incorporating local feedback into project planning, not merely informing residents of predetermined decisions. Past experiences show that community concerns are often acknowledged, but not acted upon.

“This site is not suitable. The proposed development is too close to two villages and two schools.

My husband and I cannot sleep. We feel we have lost control over our lives and our property.

This proposal has already affected our ability to make the retirement plans we’ve worked so hard for.”

Anne-Marie Glover, Binalong resident and adjoining landholder

“We’ve never faced anything like this before. These industrial wind developers are riding into our town, destroying friendships and pitting neighbour against neighbour. They want to build this staggering thing near two heritage villages and two schools. This is beautiful farming land, not an industrial wasteland.”

Anne & Paul Glover. Binalong

“My life - including my livelihood as a primary producer, my sense of wellbeing, our future retirement and family succession plans  will be significantly and unjustly diminished by this development.

After a lifetime of care for the land, it is devastating to know that our community will be fractured by this imposed injustice, and the natural landscapes appreciated by thousands will be decimated, devalued and irrevocably altered.”

Pamela Shephard. Bowning

“My concern is that the Yass district already hosts the Bango and Rye Park Wind Farms — both visible from my home. We see 24 wind towers at Bango to the north and 10 more to the east. If the Bendenine Wind Farm goes ahead, my community will be surrounded by wind farms on three sides. There is growing anger and hostility to this project in the Yass, Bowning and Binalong region, especially with further proposals underway in Bookham, Wee Jasper and Coppabella.”
